NEWS: New F1 Feature

English 30.06.2016 15:12:47
We have one new feature prepared for Formula 1 car development during next season. it is not final yet, we would like to know your opinion so please read th enews and give us the feedback in comments.
So there will be new choice available for development of chassis. As you start the project of a new chassis you will be asked to pick the focus of the development. That would be one of 3 or 4 choices - speed, downforce, handling or neutral. That would boost your chassis by few points in some attributes. Speed focus would add something to maxspeed parameter, downforce focus would add something to acceleration, brakes and little to handling, handling focus would add strength to handling. Neutral focus would add same amount of points to all parameters.

Now what would that change in the game? For example when I did simulations for perfect car with 100% quality in all parts, 10 litres of fuel and 100% soft tyres for all 4 proposed choices on every F1 track, I got exactly the same overal time (29:49.500 = one lap on every track together). On some tracks speed focus had the advantage, on other tracks it was another focus with advantage.

Maximum difference between best and worst time on any track was 0.2786 seconds - that is in Monza and this was of course advantage of speed focus, the weakest time was made by handling focus.
Minimum difference was only 0.0315 in Yas Marina.

There are 9 tracks next season where speed focus is the best in dry conditions on perfect tyres and low fuel, 6 tracks where downforce focus is the best and 5 tracks where handling focus leads the way. Neutral focus is never best and never worst.

Simulations in worse weather or worn tyres or more fuel in tank, puts the advantage more to the side of handling and downforce focus. Of course it is just slight advantage in form of little bette roveral time (20l fuel/50% worn hard tyres - difference between best and worst overal time on all tracks is 0.3249s).

SO this is a basic information of created idea, now the question for you F1 managers, drivers and fans is, would you like us to implement this change for next season, so we can have such variability in races in season 20?

I like that. It would create a more divers field.

Do you mean that the first season where we can have it will be 20th season?...
Anyway my opinion lets try This will add some more random

I believe this would really help 2nd tier teams win or atleast get better finishes. I love the concept should actually make the season more exciting. I also think this will help teams get into the point standings. Very cool Idea

Nice feature, I think this would be a great Idea

1. development of chassis for season 20 during season 19 would be affected, so results on in races will be in season 20...
2. i would not call it random, just variability. in real f1 we have something similar with red bull being actually faster in monte carlo than mercedes, but mercedes being faster elsewhere... but the advantage of mercedes is bigger or smaller on various tracks... but in the middle of the field you can see some tracks being better for some teams and some not...
3. yes 2nd tier teams will get the chance to be competitive on some tracks, altough on some other the gap to top teams will be even bigger...
30.06.2016 17:25:05 - havox - Reply
i like the idea, so the teams have a better choice in terms of developing the car - not just doing the same thing every season again and again

Good idea, F1 would be more equal depending on driver skill just like irl

Pretty good idea. I'd like to have more data before making any judgements. I suppose trial and error will be the way. My vote is yes

Absolutely in favor of this!

This is a great idea

Great!
And also team should be allowed to build 2 different chassis (or even 3) if they want to spend their money on it (just like it's in real F1).

Sounds great on paper! I personally would like to see this idea having green light. Provides more strategic options for the teams and (hopefully) less "boring" seasons due to variability.

i like the idea very much. my fear is, that after one season, people will know, what the best option is, and most teams will have the same preference, hence nothing would change.
but in general the idea is great.

for teams 10-15 in the standings they are more likely to go against the grain in order to get points in the other tracks it is like nascar Yates and childress were always superspeedways, Hendrick dominated the short tracks and mile and a half teams used to pick and choose what they were good at they always had 1 or 2 track types that they lacked. this is the reason why not everyone will choose the same it is not like IROC where all the equipment is the same and you have the drivers making the difference.

There seems to always be so much emphasis on chasis's to get the what your trying for is big.. But it also can fine tune a car to fit a racing style.. Some race strategies would benefit more or hide the weakness with car strength in chasis.. I think this is very good idea and more complexity is always positive.. I doubt seriously any on chasis design will become the only right way.. Just like there more then just 1 right way to train a driver.. Only takes 1 team to break the mold to show how deverse F1 racing is.

Sounds interesting, but as edis said, after 1 season every team will have the same preference. But why is it not possible to let the team choose the exact focus of the development?
We have 3 types of focus: speed, downforce ans handling. For every focus a team has to set a value between 0% and 100% (of course all together must be 100%). If a team wants a "neutral" development, you can choose 33%/33%/34%. If you want to concentrate on a specific focus, then it will be 100%/0%/0%. But every combination must be possible. And of course, the values must be hidden.

i think thats too complex and very hard to balance.
when i read the news right, then there was a lot of testing and balancing necessary to let us choose 1 of 4 options

Too much rules kill the game but this one is a good idea only if :

NOBODY can see what do the other team !

Otherwise it will be as usual. Red Bull do and the other teams follow from the beginning of the F1.

Same thing for tyres. Why it is possible to see tyres of the other drivers ? We tried somme different solutions season 18 and we have been followed by some others drivers the next race.

Irl the tyre type is visible.

However I would agree that the tyre life left and fuel load would not normally be availiable.....

I made a lot of simulations. All 3-4 focuses would be equal. In normal circumstances. In very extreme situation which means hard tyres worn to 30%, the difference between best and worst times on all tracks is 0.0152s in average in favor of one focus... but that is the focus which actually have "best" overal performance but dominates only on 5 tracks out of 20, while "worst" overal focus is best on 9 tracks... but speaking of best and worst focus we are talking about very small overal difference... not that it will not be easy to find optimal focus, but i believe it will be impossible...

Reply to: 01.07.2016 09:10:42 - Invictus
I believe that having possibility to do it like you described would spoil the idea.... Probably no team will go with 100% into one focus. Then cars will be more similar than different... Those must be extreme choices in some way to make sure that there will be really differences...

If everybody only follows then others would never overtake Red Bull. Exact focus will not be directly visible, but smart person would easily read on car attributes....
02.07.2016 10:38:39 - Slovakia DebiK - Reply
But my plan for the future is also change the influence of each focus in case one is highly popular... Not to give advantage to anybody, but to make it equal....
