Carmona Eyes Top 5 End To NASC Canada Series

English 26.12.2018 - Steven Carmona has come a long way. At the beginning of the NASC Canada Series season, Carmona had led laps at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park before crashing out of the lead. It was his first start, and his only DNF to date.

In fact, Carmona has finished in the top 10 every single race since. The rookie is not only a fresh face to the NASC Canada Series, but to the My Racing Career universe as well. Carmona made headlines when he skipped the Rookie Series, a typical starting point for every driver newly aboard the MyRacingCareer world. However, Carmona not only skipped that, he also completely skipped the NASC Mexico Series as well, which equates to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in the world of NASCAR. Instead, he moved to the NASC Canada Series, the North American Stock Car Racing Association (NASCRA) version of the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

The rookie was unknown headed into the season, but people know him now. Once plotted to finish 25th in the season standings, Carmona has easily surpassed expectations.

Currently, he is currently ranked 15th should he return next season to the NASC Canada Series. However, he is a remarkable 5th in points with just two races remaining on the season, and excluding the crash in the season opener, he potentially could have been third behind dominant forces Paul Carlotti and a driver under the name of Alan Kulwicki.

With 12 races down, and Carmona qualifying 6th for the 12th event, the driver of the #54 Chevrolet has notched 10 top 5s, 6 top 10s, and a podium finish.

Despite the crash at CTMP in the season opener, he finished 30th, and even looked as though he may have won in those first thirty laps.

Cayuga: qualified 11th, finished 5th
Chaudiere: qualified 9th, finished 8th
Toronto: qualified 11th, finished 8th
Wyant Group (event 1): qualified 6th, finished 4th
Wyant Group (event 2): qualified 7th, finished 7th
Edmonton Oval: qualified 4th, finished 4th
Trois-Rivieres: qualified 5th, finished 3rd
Riverside: qualified 9th, finished 9th
Pacific Place: qualified 7th, finished 5th
Canadian Tire Motorsports Park: qualified 5th, finished 5th

Thus, the season results are nothing short of phenominal for a rookie. The only thing left on the to-do list is the win. "We're going to try whatever we can to get that win in this series, hopefully at New Hampshire but it's going to be tough with Paul Carlotti hogging the lead. But things happen, so you never know." Carmona said. Carmona did announce that he would move up to the NASC Gold Cup Series next season, currently being ranked 25th at the moment in the Gold Cup rankings. When asked about that, Carmona replied " Anything around 20th for my rookie season in Cup would be my expectations for next year. I'm very much looking forward to the challenge." His could-be teammate Alex Burks is also looking to make the move to Cup, depending on if he will make the cut or not. Burks is ranked 42nd in his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet at the moment.

On the Formula 3 side, Carmona has ran in the Premiere Oval Series, and now the Far-East Grand Cup. In the Indycar style Premiere Oval Series, Carmona ran 2 seasons, finishing 26th most recently with goose eggs in all the columns, and in his rookie season in the series, he finished 14th in the standings, with just 2 top 10s to the name, coming at Daytona and Indianapolis. Carmona then was forced out of the series by the next gen and the powerful competitors, which led to the Far-East Grand Cup, Carmona's first FIA sanctioned series enterance. He finished 9th in his debut event at Shanghai, and then 17th after rain caused havoc to teams after Carmona qualified 13th in Fuji.

In the hot seat events, Carmona regularly runs these races against the locals, and other big names - yielding very consistent results. So far in a total of 91 starts in all series and hot seats, Carmona earned 8 wins, 24 podiums, 38 top 5s and 58 top 10s. Adding to it is 4 poles, 36 top 5 starting positions and 61 top 10 starting positions. His career totals 11 poles and 12 wins.

With the season coming to a wrap, the timing of the NASC season finale comes with an excellent backdrop for Carmona, as he looks to get one win in the NASC Canada Series before moving up to the major Cup Series; which of course runs all 36 races on the Cup schedule, as opposed to the 14 that the Canada Series runs and the 12 in the Mexico Series. It will be an interesting way to end 2018.
